meeting GUIDELINES

BE ON TIME
  • Be mindful of one another's busy calendar by starting and ending on time.  Make sure to contact your group if you will be late or can't attend.
STAY ON SCHEDULE
  • Hold to your scheduled meeting even if someone can't attend.  As long as 2 can gather, you have discipleship!
YOUR GROUP SHOULD SPEND TIME IN THREE AREAS DURING YOUR ONE HOUR TOGETHER:

1.  Discussing His Word
  • Bring your Bible and journal.
  • Begin by sharing insights from your 10 Minute Tuning in Questions 1-2 in COMMUNITY.  The truth of His Word is what sanctifies us (John 17:17), so centering our conversation around His Word is the foundation of discipleship.
  • Each person should feel free to share something from their tuning time.  Share what impacted you the most from your time with Him since the group last met.
  • An alternative to sharing individually, would be to do a 10 Minute Tuning together as a group.  Read a chapter together and walk through the Tuning Tool together.  This is a great way we disciple one another in learning to tune ourselves to God during our 10 Minute Tuning.

2.  Conversation Starters
  • Utilize the questions in the app to start conversation.  These questions are simply "firestarters", to help your group engage in discipling conversations.  Freely engage with one another by asking questions to encourage one another in building community and finding purpose.
  • It may be helpful for your group to routinely review the Discipleship Guidelines to help one another build a group that provides an opportunity for all.  Be willing to disciple one another in their growth by encouraging one another to hold to the guidelines.
  • Your group should start with COMMUNITY, before you move into PURPOSE.   The goal is not to get through the questions, the goal is to encourage one another to connect to Jesus, and with one another through discipling conversations.

3  Praying together.
  • Your group's prayer time is to help one another focus our concerns, needs, and praise upon the One who is the provider of all needs and answers.
  • Share your prayer needs with one another.  Be careful not to provide too much detail during your sharing; simply define the need, not the background or options.  God knows all the information necessary.  Just provide enough details to allow others to pray and help you turn the gaze of your soul to God in your need.
**Be careful not to provide one another direction, instruction, or counsel during prayer time as the focus is on helping one another turn the gaze of our soul to God, not to our suggestion or advice.
  • Consider how you can be praying for and applying what you've discussed during your time together.
  • If some don't initially feel comfortable praying out loud, that's ok.  Encourage one another to learn how to pray by praying simple, honest, real prayers that aren't meant for anyone other than our awesome God who meets all our needs.
  • You can pray by going in a circle, or pray for the person on your left/right, or 'popcorn prayer' where anyone jumps in as they feel led.
  • A wonderfully short prayer that any can pray is simply, "God, please help!".
FINISH AT ONE HOUR.
  • This provides any who need to leave the freedom to do so, but if others would like to remain longer you are welcome to.
